the trash man takes their photo! It's true. The twins and I have a new hobby of going for a walk- literally, all three of us walking! Either each baby takes a push toy, or they share the wagon (I know, I can't believe they shared it either!), or, occasionally, Oliver will sit in the wagon and Violet will push him. We walk up and down our sidewalk, and the babies love it! Yesterday, we were headed out as the trash men were collecting in their truck and the driver pulled his camera out and took a photo of the babies. Too funny.
Lots of news...
1. First, the bad and sad. I haven't blogged on here about how our beautiful, expensive and complicated-to-put-together cribs were recalled last month, mostly because every time I think about it, I get so angry about the incompetent way the manufacturer is going about the recall (briefly: stop using the cribs immediately and fill out this form. In two weeks you'll be UPS'd an envelope to mail back hardware from the faulty cribs to us. In other 3-4 weeks we'll send you a voucher for Babies 'R Us to buy new cribs. So, um, where do my 13 month old twins sleep for the other 6 WEEKS???). So, we charged two new beautiful and expensive cribs to our charge card (expensive since they MUST be the same price as the recalled ones), and waited (yet another) two weeks for them to arrive at BRU (what? You thought they would have cribs in stock? Why would a baby retailer have cribs in the stockroom?). We haven't had time to get the new ones put together yet. Here comes the sad part. Yesterday, I put the babes down for their second nap of the day, and turned on the monitors. Peanut talked for a while, and I was picking up things downstairs. Suddenly, I noticed she was gasping, and then WAILING- and not "I just threw up!" crying. Can we guess where this is going? Little Peanut's LEG HAD GOTTEN CAUGHT IN THE SLATS OF THE CRIB. From what I can figure, she was standing on the bumper, and stuck her knee through the slats. Her foot went behind the bumper, and her knee got caught and she fell over.
People, it was horrible.
I was the only one home, and Violet is screaming and crying- I can't lift her or lay her down because of the way she is caught. I could not get her little leg to move out or in, and I had this horrible moment of "What the hell do I do?!" I looked around for A&D, anything to loosen her leg- nothing (of course!). I finally mustered what I believe to be superhuman strength, and put my foot on one bar, grabbed the other with my hands, and broke the slats. SUPERMOMMY to the rescue! Woo-hoo!
Sweet girl, understandably sobbed for some time afterwards, and I was quite shaken, even with my super powers. We sat on the front porch for a while, and then had a few puffs, which always seems to help her. Her leg is very red (still today!) and bruised, but she's ok!
We put the crib together immediately.
2. Violet said her first words, other than Mama, Dada, Baba and Ot (still not sure about this one, but she's insistent). She says "Hi!" and waves, and can say and find the "Ball". Oliver can find things we ask him for, but isn't say any true words yet, other than the above (minus the "Ot"). He recently started babbling "Mee Meee Mee", and sometimes I think he's saying "Aimee". Weird. They are both REALLY into books (still), and love that I've made them their own little bookshelf of board books. They spread them on the floor and turn the pages. Their favorite bedtime books are, Violet: "Can you cuddle like a koala?" and "Peek-a-baby", and Oliver: "The Wide-Mouthed Frog" and "Chick-a-Chick-a-Boom-boom".
3. Both babies are doing really well with eating table food. Oliver is a little further along than Violet, and eats most anything I give him (surprised?). Recently we've added cheese quesadillas, pears, bananas, and noodles. I'm still hesitant to add meat or chicken to their diets. Not sure why.
4. I'm looking to enter V into the Guiness Book of World Records for either Only Baby in the World Born without Teeth or Baby Whose Teeth emerged the latest in Life. Yep. Nearly FOURTEEN months and not a tooth in sight. Meanwhile, we're counting Ollie's molars!
Ok- a ridiculously long post, and I'm sorry for the grammatical errors. Below are two videos: 1 of Violet talking, and the other of O trying to "pants" Violet in the back room. :)
