tumbles, oranges and the unmentionables...

Lots of news! First of all, the babes had their nine month (!) appointment on Monday. It went very well, especially because they had no immunizations! Oliver weighed (drum roll, please)...a whopping 23lb 10oz, and is officially as large as his 21 month old cousin, Trevor. Violet is growing quickly at her own rate, and is now 18 lbs- a big jump from her 6 month weight of 14! They were so, so well behaved, and excited to hear Dr. Sharon tell them they could now have almost ANY adult food they can tolerate!

We've switched their formula, with that in mind, going from the one we started with in the dreary colic days to one with more lactose in it, hoping to have them able to drink milk by the time they're a year old. They seem to like to taste a lot, but have been constipated beyond belief. . Poor Violet had trouble all day long, and finally before dinner time, just lost it. She was pushing, grunting, sweating, screaming. So, I went in for a look- I swear, it was like she was giving birth to a baby! A little round, hard, very dark baby. I got so upset, and she was BEYOND upset. I tried to pull it out with my hands (welcome to Motherhood Extreme), but thought I would tear something; we called my mom, we called the pediatrician.....finally, it just went back inside! Horrible. After much massaging, Vaseline and thermometer use, we put her in the bath tub, and well, let's just say it was a water birth. She was so, so happy then! Whew. From now on, only prunes, pears and apples in our house!

Finally, we've tried to start some big people food here. The babies love "chewing" on orange and peach slices, but I can't seem to get them to eat anything with any serious texture yet. I tried avocados a few days ago, and poor Oliver gagged and heaved until he threw everything up. We'll keep trying though!

I'm putting some photos of the orange-eating below. You'll see mixed reactions from both babies!
