First, Uncle Adam came to visit this week. The last time we saw him was Christmas Day, and the babies had a rough, rough time. Ben and I were starting to fear that getting to know family at all would be a long traumatic event for the twins. Luckily, they were so different during this visit! It was wonderful. Both babies warmed up to Adam immediately. It was as thought Oliver looked at him and thought, "Hmmm..looks like Daddy. Kind of looks like me! Ok- let's hang out!". SO cute.
On Saturday, we went to visit our friends Mollie and Scott, who have two sweet boys, Eli and Ezra. I'm not sure if I've made it entirely clear on this blog what an ordeal it is for us to go places, especially other people's houses. We've done a few outings to my sister's that have been pretty successful, but, in general, we beg people to come to our house instead. The visit started off on a very bad note, with Oliver being completely terrified of their black lab, Sada. Obviously Sada is great with kids, and Oliver has met my mom's dog, Cappy, as well as had small encounters with the three (!) bulldogs next door. Something about Sada just terrified Ollie, though. Poor, sweet baby clung to me and SCREAMED and cried. We eased our way into the house, and I used the power of distraction (right now, a half-full water bottle) to calm Oliver down. We ended up having a wonderful afternoon! BOTH babies were content and played and smiled. How exciting for us that we may actually be able to visit people and be social again! Here is the best part though. At one point during our visit, we were talking quietly about something and Ben glanced at Violet. She looked up at him and said "Dada"!!! It was amazing! She has been working so hard on her consonants lately, and it just came out! Now, we're not deluded enough to truly believe that she knows Ben is here "Dada", but she's talking! She's been nonstop since then, with many, many "dadada"s and "gagaga"s. SO funny to hear!
We are adding some photos at the bottom of Uncle Adam's visit and our latest playground trip. Hopefully video of our new talker will follow soon!
